Halloween 2011 began with pumpkin carving a week before Halloween. It was a little early and the pumpkin didn't make it but none of the three boys below could wait any longer to do the carving.
Halloween was on a Monday this year. The Saturday before we had the ward Halloween party. The kids were so excited to finally be able to wear their costumes. We had chili and cornbread, rode on a hayride and did trunk-or-treating. Grant, having become obsessed with Mario over the past few months, dressed as Mario. Cole decided early on to be a cowboy so we borrowed and bought the necessary items to make that happen. Tyler was an adorable little lobster. Chad went with his usual nail in the head and I threw on peasantish skirt and shirt in a weak attempt to look dressed up.
Also in keeping with tradition we made Halloween sugar cookies. I signed Grant up to bring snacks to school on Halloween so that he could bring this fun Halloween treat to his school Halloween party. Cole, Tyler and I attended his class party. The boys made a craft, sang some songs and enjoyed the cookies. Cole was so happy to be part of Grant's class and activities for a short time.
Monday evening we picked up Chad from work to grab some dinner and get an early jump on trick-or-treating in Granville in Prescott Valley. I had Matt take a picture of the family at Chad's work because I knew it would be our only opportunity for a big family picture. I purchased fairy wings earlier that day to make a better attempt at a costume for Grant's Halloween party and trick-or-treating.
We did a lot of trick-0r-treating and wore out the boys. We did a good chunk of Granville and then went to Mt. Vernon to show the boys the cool decorations. The boys took turns getting tired and then getting second and third winds. We took several candy breaks to re-energize and stayed out way too late. It was a perfect Halloween. As I did last year, I bought the boys new dress up costumes the day after Halloween at way discounted prices. Grant picked a Wolverine costume and Cole picked Spiderman. They love those costumes as much or more than the ones they wore for Halloween.
