April 2013

The biggest news from April was that Papa and Janet were married on April 3, 2013. We are all very happy for them. They headed to Europe for 2 weeks of honeymoon right after the ceremony.

Most of April was spent at the baseball fields. Both boys were in t-ball this year. It will be our one year ever where we have two on the same team. The boys were both Rockhounds this year, just like Grant was last year. They had the same coach Grant had last year and several of the same boys were on their team. I was the team mom and Chad helped out with coaching. We love baseball season, except the crazy wind that always comes to Flagstaff at the same time. Both boys had a great time smacking the ball and practicing their gun slinger for fielding.

This is video of the boys at their first game of the season:  http://youtu.be/KEqCoYpgnNchttp://youtu.be/eNK1SnsbQhAhttp://youtu.be/4dE0y3dMw1A

On April 7, 2013, we hiked the Priest Draw Trail to check off another hike in our Flagstaff Hikes book. It was a long straight and virtually endless path with limestome alcoves for climbing in and over. The boys loved the climbing. We didn't actually make it very far on this hike before turning around because the boys spent so much time climbing. Luckily we did this hike in early spring because it would have been hot later in the summer. There is no shade.

On April 20, 2013, we finally made it to Walnut Canyon National Monument and checked off another hike. This hike starts with at least 200 stairs down to the loop trail that lets you see and even explore ancient cave dwellings. Tyler was a bit scarey on this hike as one side of the trail was a sheer, unrailed cliff drop. Of course, he refused to hold hands, which meant he had to be carried against his will for most of the loop. On the upside, he did insist upon walking back up all 200+ stairs all by himself. We happened to go on this hike on Earth Day so the rangers had newspaper planters, dirt and Anasazi bean seeds available for the kids. Each boy boy brought home a planter with three bean seed, which went into our backyard garden.

On April 24, 2013, Grant participated in his schoolwide musical performance. Each class performed a song and dance in full costume with lighting and microphones at a local auditorium. Grant's class performed The Cat in the Hat from Seussical the Musical. You can see his costume below. He did a great job and gave it all he had.

On April 25, 2013, Cole had his bike rodeo at preschool. The teachers and aids set up a great chalk drawn bike course complete with car wash, cross walks, traffic cops, stop signs and the like. The kids brought a helmet and a bike, scooter, tricycle or whatever they ride and rode the course over and over. Cole chose to bring his scooter and Tyler brought his tricycle. The boys rode around and round until they were exhausted. It taught the kids about bike and street safety while letting them have a great time. Here's video of the event: http://youtu.be/gJ0l3aVzLD0

On April 28, 2013, we headed camping with our friends Dave and Annie Schultz and their boys, Boston and Charlie. The Schultz's didn't sleep out but stayed until well past dark enjoying our campfire and being out in nature. We had baseball, archery, big foot sightings, roasted marshmallows and hot dogs and all the junk food you could want.

These are random snaps of the boys from the month. Grant lost his second tooth. Cole looked beyond adorable in his oversized t-ball uniform and backwards hat (which he did on his own). Tyler was his same too cute and hornary self.
