It rained for a total of about 20 hours on Thursday. It didn't stop. In the middle of the night on Thursday, we lost power and didn't get it back until about noon Friday. It was cold. Shelli and I started a 1,000 piece puzzle that I've had since I got married. We didn't finish it until a couple of weeks ago and by we I really mean Shelli. I did some while she was gone but she finished the hard stuff. Below is Cole in the snow on Friday. He hated it. He does not like the snow at all and was mad that I even put him down to take the picture.
It is necessary on any snow day to bake something yummy and delicious so we did. We made brownies and the boys were in heaven licking the bowl. I have so many pictures of Granty at Cole's age making brownies (see below) and licking the bowl. Now I have two boys doing it together.
The snow and rain storm was not all fun and games though. Thursday afternoon a leak started in the ceiling in our dining room. The paint started bubbling and filling up with water. Within a couple of hours of first noticing it, we were able to get someone out to patch the roof but as the night progressed paint started bubbling in other places on the ceiling and water started pouring in from our window sills. On Friday, we thought it was under control and we were just going to wait for the storm to pass to fix the roof. However, on Friday afternoon, I noticed the ceiling drywall bowing. I immediately called the contractor, fearing the ceiling was going to fall in. He started feeling around and discovered that the drywall in our entire dining room area was soaked so badly he could stick his fingers into the drywall with ease. They had no choice but to rip down all the wet drywall and insulation and reinsulate and drywall. It was a project that took about 1-1/2 weeks to complete. This is what our ceiling looked like after all the wet drywall was torn down.
This is Sean Smith and Taylor Burk, our contractors, cleaning up the wet drywall and insulation that was removed. It was a huge, dusty mess.
